BIGGEST MISTAKES RE: SUCCESSION PLANNING ii

The second category of mistakes or misconceptions encompasses what I call "role behavior analysis." These items include"

*   Looking for a clone of the incumbent

*   Not involving younger generations in creating a vision for the role and purposes the successor will fill

*   Considering the biggest rainmakers to be the best leadership material

*   Undervaluing interpersonal skills and use of coaching for new leaders and successors

*   Lack of transparency in making criteria for selection known
